Feathers, fins and legal scales
Budgies, beginner aquariums and the licences you actually need before bringing a reptile home in Australia.
Native reptiles are not a backyard souvenir. Licensing differs across NSW, Victoria, Queensland and the rest of the country, wild capture is the wrong origin story, and a heat lamp is both welfare equipment and a fire risk.
The kindest first aquarium is an empty one you learn to cycle. Australian tap water needs conditioner, goldfish do not live in bowls, and a January heatwave will cook a tank you placed in a window because it “looked nice”.
Budgies are an Australian native that still get kept like a cheap ornament. A decent life means flight space, a proper diet beyond seed, toys that change, and a household that will never release a pet into the wild or park it beside a non-stick pan.
