You should know that your Persian Cat`s eyes are very sensitive, so you should keep a check on them, so you will know if a problem develops. You should also keep the fur around the eyes trimmed if is gets too long. Be very careful when doing this and wait for your kitty to fall into a deep sleep, to make it easier.
If you don`t think you can do it, ask your groomer or vet for help. If your cat has fluids building up in their eyes, you should ask your vet for the proper eye drops for them. Before you put the drops in their eyes, remove any fluid around their eyes with a soft, wet tissue. Be careful not to touch the eye itself!
If you think your cat is having a problem seeing, you should have him/her vet-checked. there are some eye diseases that Persians are prone to that can only be fixed with surgery. One of these is tear duct overflow and the Persian produces too much tears and has the poor ability to drain it`s tears. Some signs of this are; tear stains; forming of dried tears around its eye and skin irritation under the eyes.
Another one is Cataracts, so if you see a build-up inside your cat`s eye and you think the cat`s vision is affected, then get the kitty to the vet! The cataract will have to be removed by surgery. This is not a very serious problem as it can be cured through surgery, but another disease that your Persian is prone to is Progressive Retinal Atrophy and there is no cure for this disease.
In this disease, the cat`s retina will slowly degenerate and the cat will eventually go blind. Of course, no one wants to see their cat lose its sight, but you can still provide him/her with a safe, happy, healthy, loving environment, in which they can thrive.
You may even want to look into preventative eye supplements for your cat as a holistic way of treating your cat is an excellent way to ensure they stay healthy and happy!
