The Labrador Retriever originated in Newfoundland, originally called St John Dogs, They were originally used to help fishermen, then taken to North England as gun dogs. The Labrador is consistently one of the most popular and favorite breeds in recent years. He is perfect for a first time owner because he is highly trainable and easy to maintain. The Labrador has a gentle and affectionate personality that also applies when theyre with children. They do very well in dog sports such as obedience, retrieving, agility and hunting. Their friendliness extends to everyone including strangers. They also have high tendencies to over eat and gain weight.
Labradors need an hour of exercise daily. They are a friendly, loving and people oriented breed that will make a lovely family dog for even the most inexperienced dog owner.
