How do i clean my Gold Fish Bowl without hurting my fish

Published on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in Fish

Gold fish are some of the most beautiful fresh water aquarium fish you can ever get. They are also easy to manage and keep. They do not need a lot of things and a regular cleaning and feeding program may be all they need to survive. You should also ensure that the fish bowl is large enough because they require a lot of space. Here are helpful tips on how to clean gold fish bowl environment.

-Put some of the water in the fish bowl into a smaller bowl and place the fish into it. The gold fish needs the environment it is used to. A sudden change may lead to shock, sickness and even death.

- Do not use soap or chemicals to clean the fish bowl. This can introduce chemicals that can harm the fish. Use clean cool water. Wash the gravel, rocks and any other decorations you have separately. Wash the bowl with a clean clothe then put all the things back and add new water. Leave it overnight to get to room temperature and for the chlorine to evaporate.

- The following day, place the smaller container with fish into the fish bowl and let the fish swim freely from the container. Place it in a way that allows fish to swim into the fish bowl. Leave it there for sometime. The fish need to get used to the new environment slowly.

-You should clean the whole fish tank occasionally. Maybe after a few months but once a week, you can remove 25% of the water and replace it with fresh water. This will ensure that the bowl stays clean and at the same time, the environment in the bowl is maintained. Thorough cleaning changes the environment and destroys useful bacteria. This can weaken the fish.

- You do not have to worry so much about algae building up. You can leave some of it on the bowl because the fish loves nibbling on it.

- You should also feed the gold fish sparingly. They do not eat a lot and what is left over sinks, rots and finally produces toxins that pollute the water. The food also makes the fish bowl get dirty quickly. In case you put to much food in the fish bowl, remove it with a sieve.

Gold fish loves swimming and playing especially when the environment they are in is safe, healthy and clean. They are the best fish to go for especially if you do not have prior experience raising fish.
