Heroic Dog Stories

Published on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in Dogs and Puppies

Dogs have continually proven their position in human society as man’s best friend. Almost every day there would be news about how a dog had saved a man’s life.  Here are some fascinating canine heroism.

In Poland, three-year old Julia had gone astray from her home and spent the night in the cold forest about 4 miles away.  She was kept company by a mixed-breed dog named CzaruÅ›. Her grandmother who was looking after her that time realized late at night that the girl was missing.  The search party found her crying in the morning, with her arms wrapped around CzaruÅ›.  The rescuers believe that it was CzaruÅ› that kept the toddler warm through the 5ËšC-night.

A pit bull from New Jersey that goes by the name Creature found an elderly woman lying in the woods.  Creature was on a barking rampage trying to tell its owner, Cara Jones, that something was amiss outside.  Jones had gone to see what Creature was trying to point out and she came across Carmen Mitchell.  The 89-year old Mitchell suffers from dementia and had wandered aimlessly for hours.    Mitchell’s relatives have been notified and she was taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia.  If Creature had not persistently barked for Mitchel to be found, things might have gone tragic.

Brin is an Afghan dog who sniffed deadly roadside bombs in Helmand province.  He was a stray dessert dog when soldiers found him in Afghanistan.  The dog was barking over a pile of stones that turned out to be an active explosive.  Brin was adopted by the soldiers and he tagged along for missions.  Brin was the troop’s mascot and the guide.  Brin led troops safely through treacherous Taliban-infested land. The dog was captured and became a prisoner of the enemy, and the soldiers then had to fly home.  He was rescued by Afghan troops and re-united him with his soldier friends.  Brin was flown to the U.K. after much effort and fund-raising from a Sally Baldwin whose heart was touched by the dog’s unconditional deeds for the British soldiers.

Akita is a dog from Scotland who is a Japanese dog. This breed is known for aggression and it was for this reason that its kind was banned in most communities, along with pit bulls and English mastiffs.  One freezing morning, Akita leapt into the cold waters of Methil Docks to save his owner from drowning.  The dog stayed with his master until the rescuers arrived.  Akita and its owner were brought to the hospital and are now out of danger.
