10 Easy Dog Tricks

Published on Saturday, August 29, 2015 in Dogs and Puppies

Dog training isn't just about teaching your dog the basics like sit, come, down and stay. As a matter of fact there are plenty of other tricks that you can teach your pet pooch to widen its skills, not to mention, stimulate its brain.

Here are 10 dog tricks that are worth teaching your pet.

  1. Bow – this is a fairly straightforward trick as most dogs tend to bow to other dogs when they play. The trick here is to get your dog to lie on his chest with his rear up in the air.
  2. Back up – this can be handy especially if you don’t want to get crowded when you feed your dog, open the fridge, or even answer the door.
  3. Shake Paws – just like shaking hands teach your dog this trick to greet your friends.
  4. Speak – This can be helpful especially if your dog barks incessantly. Teaching it when to bark and when not to can help in the long run.
  5. Wave – You should start by teaching your dog to shake hands. Once your dog knows how to shake hands, it will be easier for you to teach your dog to lift its paw and give a wave.
  6. Kiss – Place a treat on your cheek and let your dog kiss you to get it. This is a great trick that you can teach your pet so he can give your kids or younger guests a wet kiss.
  7. Spin – The best way to teach your dog how to spin is to place a treat near its nose then spin it in one direction. You can also teach your pet to spin left or right.
  8. Beg – Who can say no to a dog that begs? This is a nice trick to add to your dog’s arsenal. Although this can be a bit tougher to pull off, once you do, you can show off your dog’s begging trick to your friends to earn him some nice treats.
  9. Roll Over – You can start by teaching your dog to roll over in just a short while until he gets the hang of it. Once he does, you can extend his rolls then reward him with a treat after.
  10. Play Dead – This is one trick that you shouldn't miss when teaching your pet new tricks. The best way to pull this off is to teach your dog to roll over first. Once he gets the hang of it mime shooting a gun then say bang to make your dog play dead.
