The Burmese is sleek, muscular and handsomely coloured, and virtually all pedigree Burmese have ancestry that can be traced back to a cat called Wong Mau, brought to the US from Burma by an American Navy psychiatrist. The primary colour for the breed is sable (brown), although other colours such as blue and tortie can be found in pedigree Burmese. The show standards for Burmese differ all over the world, but one thing that all Burmese have in common is their dense and glossy coat. With strong personalities, Burmese will fit perfectly into any lifestyle and living arrangement, from an outdoor life in a country cottage to an indoor life in the city.
