Cocker Spaniel

Description The Cocker Spaniel is a dog breed split into two groups.
The working Cocker is similar in nature and energy levels to the English Springer and he carries most of the spaniel traits of a busy nature, friendliness, loyalty and fun. He is certainly overwhelmingly nice natured and you cant help but smile at the working Cocker squirming around your ankles for attention. Bred for the gun he loves to run and has the innate habit of going round in fast wide circles on walks. He needs a busy lifestyle for using up his energy levels, is highly trainable and very willing.
The Cocker Spaniel that is bred for show purposes is different again. His appearance is less like the springer and more of a toy dog. This area of the breed is sensitive in nature and therefore, one must be gentle yet consistent when training him. He may learn to yap and will need early social training during the first few months of his life in order to prevent shyness becoming fear. With lower demand for energy usage and a nice, gentle nature the little show type Cocker is a perfect companion dog. He will show little inhibition with affection towards his family.
