My Dog is a Superstar how do I get them into Modeling

Published on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Dogs and Puppies

If you think that your pooch deserves to be in the spotlight, get right on training it to be a dog model.  It is fun, you can earn some money and you get to be the manager of an uncomplaining diva.  Here are some tips into getting that modelling gig you have always dreamed of for your canine chum.

  1.  Your dog needs to be trained. You can be its dog trainer or you can hire professionals to do this.  They may be costly but they are effective.  You can gather points so you can continue practicing the tricks and commands later on. Some obedience schools  offer modelling classes from which owners learn how to handle pet models in photo shoots and filming sessions.
  2. Always have dog treats to reward your well-behaved pet.  Devote an hour of practicing tricks with your dog, following them up with rewards.  Socializing it with other people and dogs will familiarize your pet with different surroundings.  It can also prepare your dog to relax in studio settings.
  3. Put together a portfolio of photos either by professional photographers or by yourself.  Photography equipment has come a long way and there’s no need for a dark room to develop films.  Digital cameras have amazing filters for non-professional photographers.  Just create a good light setting and get your pup to behave as a professional dog model, and then you’re all set for a private photo shoot.  Dogs have the tendency not to go through things again when things do not work out for them. So remember to make it fun and rewarding for your pet and not just for yourself.
  4. Accustom your pet to long sessions of being in front of the camera.  Lights, flashes and camera sounds might startle it when they hear and see these things for the first time.  Familiarize them slowly by introducing these things in your home.  Use DLSR cameras in loud shutter sounds and train it to sit under camera lights if you can improvise one.
  5. Get connected with an animal actor agency.  Submit your pup’s photo portfolio along with his training credentials. Every time your canine gets a gig, collect a certificate and add the campaign shot to its folder.
  6. Build a better relationship with your pooch as you create its modelling career.  Let it trust you more by taking it to fun places other than a modelling job.  Calm and satisfied dogs follow their owners better when the relationship has an established trust between them.
