Just like humans, dogs need their daily exercise to be able to maintain a healthy state of being. A regular walk to the park or jogging in the morning is essential to keep your pet in top shape. But what if the weather outside isn’t cooperating with you daily routine? Well, exercising your dog inside the house is your option.

Exercising your dogs inside the house can deliver the same benefits as taking them out. Here are some tips to help you execute your alternative.

• The stairs is a great avenue for exercising. It works well for humans, so there’s no reason why it won’t work for your canine companion. Running up and down the stairs adds a little bit more challenge to your pet in comparison to their routinely walk on the street. You can stand at the top of the stairs with your dog, throw a toy down and ask him to get it for you.

• An obstacle course is another option in exercising your dogs inside. Create various challenges and lead your dog through the obstacles. This activity will definitely challenge your dog both physically and mentally.

• Another option in exercising your dogs inside is by making them work hard for their treats. Dogs always love getting their treats, so what you can do is hide pieces of his favorite treats around the house. Your dog can search for them and will end up tired during the process.

• If you have a treadmill, you can use it for your dogs too. First step is to get your dog comfortable with the sight of the machine and its sound. Then place your dog on the treadmill and give him treats occasionally while he walks. On another note, start the treadmill on the lowest speed until he gets comfortable with it. Total supervision at all times is recommended.

• Playing tug of war is another fun way in exercising your dogs inside. But you have to be cautious about this game, especially if it’s your dog’s first time to play. Make sure you are using a toy specifically made for this game and keep your hands away from your dog’s mouth.
