Feeding Your Dog A Homemade Diet and How To Prevent Fussy Eaters!

Published on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in Dogs and Puppies

If you would like to start feeding your dog a homemade diet, there`s much to learn about the proper ratio of nutrients and vitamins and supplements you will need to add. These supplements can be mixed up in a bag and sprinkled on each meal.

Your dog should have no less than 18% protein for maintenance when they are adults and 22% for growth(puppies) and reproduction. Fat should be no more than 5% for adults and 8% for growth and reproduction. If there is more fat, there must be more protein as well because fat makes the dog feel fuller, he eats less and therefore gets less nutrients.

Here are some tips to help you, so you don`t end up with a fussy eater. First, adult dogs should be fed once a day or 2 small meals, but no more! Feeding him too much can make it look like he is a fussy eater when he is really just full! Feeding your dog too much will lead to  weight gain and an overweight pet so let him get hungry and feed him only once a day, as he would if he were in the wild.

Don`t stand there and stare at your pooch! He might think he did something wrong or that maybe you`re going to give him something else and therefore, won`t eat.

If your dog refuses his meal, don`t give him something else right off or he will be training you and not the other way around! There`s nothing wrong with giving your dog a varied diet, but changing his food constantly could make him become a fussy eater.  as per  www.articlecircle.com

You should put his food down and leave it for 30 minutes. If it hasn`t been eaten, take it away and at the end of the day, put down fresh food again, for 30 minutes. If it is still not eaten, remove it, and try again tomorrow. He won`t starve and this way, you will train him to eat his food and not reinforce his behavior.

However, some dogs, just like humans, have certain foods that they just love, so if you`ve tried a variety of foods and he insists on eating just one type of food or starve, the solution would be to just simply feed him that food. You should avoid feeding your dog junk food, high-fat foods and chocolate( it`s toxic to them).
